SPIED: Audi S5 Cabriolet Facelift seen with new grille and taillights

The current-gen Audi S5 isn’t a car that needs much updating. Despite being one of the oldest cars in its class now (crazy, isn’t it?), it’s still one of the absolute best looking. Still, that hasn’t stopped Audi from working on a bit of a facelift for its sleek sports car. That facelift has just been seen on the S5 Cabriolet doing some top-up testing. (We don’t own the photos but they can be seen here)

Much like the Audi A5 facelift we saw a little while back, this new Audi S5 gets some mild tweaks that make it look just a bit fresher than before. For instance, at the front it gets an all-new grille, which is shorter and wider than before and seems to be the new face of the Audi brand. The grille looks narrower, which also makes the front end look a bit lower, giving it a sportier look. Its grille insert also sports the same sort of honeycomb design seen on Audi RS cars. It looks cool but it might take away from the special-ness of Audi RS cars’ designs.

Out back, it gets new taillights that are closer to those of the new Audi A6, with its multiple LED light elements. These are much better than those found on the current Audi S5, as the current cars’ are very simple and a bit boring.

We can’t see the interior in these photos but we do know that it will get a bit of an update. So instead of the traditional MMI screen and rotary dial controller found in the current Audi S5, the new one will get the brand’s new Touch Response MMI system. So a massive touchscreen will dominate the dashboard, as we’ve seen on the facelifted A5. That, along with Audi’s latest Virtual Cockpit will likely be the only big changes to the cabin.

We doubt there will be any significant mechanical changes to the Audi S5, so expect the same 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 found in the current car. Which will mean 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time in the mid-fives.

The current Audi S5 is a great car and one we like quite a bit, even among its newer competition. So a few tweaks here and there to make it a bit fresher, a bit more modern are only going to make it better.
