SPIED: Audi RS3 Sportback Does Some Winter Testing Ahead of Reveal

Easily one of the most anticipated upcoming Audi’s is the RS3 Sportback. The current car is one of the most beloved Audis on sale, with its pugnacious attitude, fire-spitting five-cylinder turbocharged engine and performance that will shock supercars at a third of the price. So, naturally, the prospect of a newer, better model is exciting the fanbase. Thankfully, the upcoming Audi RS3 Sportback was just seen doing some winter testing ahead of its official reveal later this year. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)

In these new photos, we can clearly see the upcoming Audi RS3 Sportback doing some winter testing in the snow. There are a few dead giveaways to its Audi Sport nature, such as its more aggressive grille and front bumper, lowered ride height, black side mirrors and, most of all, its massive oval exhausts. The latter of which are only seen on ‘RS’ cars, so there’s no denying this car’s Audi Sport roots.

Typical for an Audi Sport car, the upcoming Audi RS3 Sportback isn’t too visually different than its S3 Sportback sibling. The aforementioned details are the only real changes made to the RS3 over its lesser performing A3 variants. Still, it looks good in a typically Audi Sport way.

Under the hood, we’re happy that Audi will be retaining the RS3’s 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine. The raucous five-pot is a staple of the RS3 and it’s nice to know that Audi won’t be replacing it any time soon. Though, we do wish Audi would have updated it a bit more than it has, as we’ve learned that it will barely make any more power than the current car. Though, I guess we’re just thankful its glorious growl will remain.

If the current S3 Sportback is anything to go by, the new Audi RS3 Sportback is going to be a riot to drive. Even just the S3 is a fun, if a bit safe, driving hatchback and you can tell that Audi left a ton of room for added excitement. The S3 is quick, capable and surprisingly dynamic. So we’re excited to see what Audi Sport can do when it can really let its hair down.
