After seeing what the Lamborghini Urus can do, we’ve been waiting rather impatiently to see what the Audi RS Q8 will be like. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait awhile still to find out. Though, if you want a quick tease, some new spy photos have surfaced, showing off the RS Q8 doing some winter testing in snow.
The Audi RS Q8 looks a bit sportier than the standard Q8, though it’s obviously nowhere near as angry as the aforementioned Lamborghini. Still, its new grille insert design, big wheels and massive dual exhausts give it a whiff of menace that the standard car lacks.
We’re not sure what sort of engine the Audi RS Q8 will have but it’s said that it could use the same 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 used in the Lamborghini Urus. Now, that V8 is a VW Group engine, which will be used in both upcoming Audis and Porsches. So it’s almost certain that it will use that engine. What’s in question is whether or not it will be tuned to have as much power as the Lambo. If it does, that means the RS Q8 will make 640 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. The Urus is also capable of 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds, which is flat-out insane for an SUV of its size. So if the big Audi is similar, it’s going to be a missile.
It should also handle well, too. The Urus is far more athletic and capable than its size would let on and the Audi Q8 is already a great handling SUV in its own right. Credit them both with good bones.
We’re just hoping the RS Q8 packs a similar level of excitement as the Urus. Many of Audi Sport’s recent offerings have been a bit on the reserved side, in terms of thrills. With the Audi RS Q8 sharing so much with its Lamborghini sibling, it will be interesting to see if it inherits any of the Italian’s hot-headedness. That would be welcome.
