Oddly enough, one of the upcoming Audis we’re most excited about is actually a crossover. Not just any crossover, though, the Audi RS Q3. Which is why we’re excited that some new spy photos have surfaced, showing off the RS Q3 driving near the Nurburgring. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)
Typically, crossovers don’t excite the fanbase much, as they’re more utilitarian vehicles for small families and urban soccer moms. The Audi RS Q3 is not such a car. Instead, it’s designed to be the performance machine for an enthusiast that now needs more space that a sports car can provide. For example, an enthusiast that just recently had a child, so needs the extra practicality of a crossover, but doesn’t want to give up the speed and performance of their beloved sports car.
For someone like that, the Audi RS Q3 is perfect. Thanks to its 2.5 liter turbocharged five-cylinder, the RS Q3 will make around 400 hp and should be very quick. Judging by these spy photos, it will look good, too.
We can see that the RS Q3 won’t look too different from the standard Audi Q3 on which it’s based. Though, it won’t just be your average crossover, either. A new front fascia with more aggressive air intakes gives the front end an angrier look, while larger wheels, a widened wheel track and lower ride height make it look more athletic. It will also get Audi Sport’s signature oval exhausts, replacing the fake ones of the standard car.
Just the prospect of the Audi RS Q3 is very exciting for enthusiasts. As such an enthusiast with a young child, the idea of a high-performance crossover is actually quite appealing to me. Mostly because we don’t get any good high-performance wagons in the US, as the RS4 Avant is far more appealing. However, I can see the appeal for the RS Q3 and can’t wait to drive one.
