SPIED: Audi Q8 spied with very little camo

Couple-like SUVs are the next big thing, it seems like. First, the segment was filled with a couple of oddities, like the BMW X6 and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Coupe. However, not the coupe-like SUV-infection is beginning to spread to other brands, including Audi, Porsche and even Lamborghini. Set to sit atop the Audi Q7, in terms of technology, luxury and performance, the Audi Q8 will be Ingolstadt’s contribution to coupe-SUV segment. While quite a long way off, we’re starting to see some spy photos trickle out of Germany. These spy photos show off the upcoming Q8 from above, wearing almost no camouflage.

In these photos, we can see that the Q8 is quite a bit lower and sportier looking than the Q7. Its sweeping roofline and aggressive C-pillar make it look aggressive, far more so than a traditional SUV. It also seems to have very wide but slim taillights, similar to those on the new Audi A7. There are two different cars seen in these pictures, both black but one has chrome accents and the other has black accents. The one with chrome accents has chrome window trim and roof-rails, along with aluminum wheels. The one with black accents has black window trim, black roof-rails and darker, more aggressive wheels.

With how much sportier the Q8 with black accents looks, it’s possible we’re looking at an Audi SQ8, although that’s likely to debut after the standard Q8. Whatever it is, the Q8 looks better the sportier it gets. Let’s just hope it has real exhaust pipes.

There’s no official word on powertrains as of yet but expect a V6, a V8 and even a plug-in hybrid option. The V6 will likely be the same 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 that you’ll find in the current Audi S4, which makes 354 hp, and will be the base-model engine. As for the V8, it’s almost certainly going to be the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 found in the new Audi A7 and A8. The latter plug-in hybrid variant could be anything and we aren’t really sure what it will be at the moment. However, don’t expect the hybrid version to be some fuel-sipping green-mobile but to use hybrid tech for performance.

Overall, the new Audi Q8 looks pretty good and is shaping up to be a handsome SUV, far better looking than the new Lamborghini Urus, which is based on the Q8. According to a source of ours close to Audi, who’s seen the Q8 in person and been inside of it, it’s going to be bigger, more luxurious and more exciting than any Audi currently on sale.
