This new second-generation Audi Q5 is a handsome looking car. While we found the standard Q5 to be a bit dull to drive, we’ve never complained about its looks. Well, maybe about its fake exhausts. Apart from that, it’s a great looking car and it features a top-notch cabin as well. Having said that, its competitors are certainly catching up. The new BMW X3 is very handsome, the Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is fantastic looking and the new Volvo XC60 is gorgeous. So the Q5 needs to stay fresh to stay alive, which is why Audi is working on a facelift. (We don’t own the photos but they can be seen here)
In these new spy photos, the facelifted Audi Q5 can be seen doing some testing in mild camouflage. What’s interesting is that the Q5’s older sibling, the Q7, also just received a facelift but this new Q5’s looks nothing like it. Instead of the rather radical looking change for the Q7 facelift, this Audi Q5 looks quite tame.
Its headlights aren’t too different than the current car’s but they do feature new lighting elements inside. Its grille is new and looks better, now that it’s shorter and wider. Although, we’re not so sure about the RS-style grille insert. It sort of takes away from the specialness of an Audi RS car.
Out back, it seems to get new taillights, which are a big more interesting looking and a potentially different set of fake exhausts. Although, does that last bit really matter?
Overall, the new Audi Q5 facelift is going to be a handsome car because it’s based off of a handsome car and it doesn’t seem to have changed much. It’d be nice if Audi changed some of its driving dynamics a bit, and made it more exciting, but that’s not likely to happen. Instead, the Audi Q5 will remain a handsome, comfortable and practical family SUV.
