The Audi Q3 Sportback is coming. When it arrives, it will be the more stylish, sportier version of the standard Q3 for customers that need a bit of extra space but still don’t want to let go of their sports car just yet. If that sounds like you, get excited because it’s on its way, as evidenced by this new spy video showing off the Q3 Sportback in the snow. (We don’t own the video but see it here)
It actually looks really good, like a miniature Audi Q8 and not like a lobotomized Q3. The roofline is tapered toward the rear but not overly so and the back end of the car still has enough junk in the trunk to look like a proper crossover and not like anything has been chopped off. Though, from the B-pillar forward, it’s all Q3. Judging by the look of the aforementioned Q8 and this new Q3 Sportback, it seems as if Audi has the coupe-like SUV look down better than any of its competitors.
Speaking of competitors, the Audi Q3 Sportback will take on the BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. Though, the former will be its closest competitor. Thankfully for Audi, this new Q3 Sportback is looking a lot better than the X2, as the BMW is just not good looking. We’ve driven in and it’s surprisingly fun to drive but it just looks ghastly.
To be honest, we doubt the Audi Q3 Sportback will be as sporty as the X2 but that doesn’t mean it will be worse, necessarily. While the X2 is more fun that it has the right to be, its ride is overly harsh, its interior is spartan and not very comfortable and its cabin is quite loud at speed. If the standard Q3 is anything to go by, the Q3 Sportback should trade some of the X2’s sportiness for better refinement. Which will make it the better overall package.
