Audi gets a lot of criticism for its sort of “Same sausage, different lengths” design language, as most of its sedans look pretty much the same, just different sizes. That’s likely to continue a bit, as the new Audi A6 is almost certainly going to look like the Audi A8, judging from spy photos and teaser videos we’ve seen of it. That can also be said of the interior, as well, as it’s going to look a lot similar to the A8’s and A7’s.
We know this thanks to some new spy photos have surfaced, showing off a lot of the interior of the upcoming Audi A6 Avant (we don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here).
Seen testing in the snow, wearing full camouflage, we barely get a look at the exterior that we haven’t already seen. However, we get some new looks at its interior, which looks just like those of the A8 and A7. That’s no bad thing, don’t get me wrong. Audi’s newest interiors are brilliant and look superb, so the fact that the A6 will also use it is actually quite good. But if you’re looking for something new and different, you’re going to be disappointed.
The steering wheel seems to be the same you’ll find in an Audi A8 and the new MMI system looks to be the same as well. So the new Audi A6 will also sport dual touchscreens, one for the HVAC controls and the other of the actual infotainment system. The only curiosity is the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a traditional shift lever, like in the A8 or A7.
The driver’s hand in the photo seems to be blocking the where the shifter might be, so maybe there is one there and it’s just hidden. Although, we can see the shift pattern indicator and there doesn’t seem to be a shift lever in sight. So could Audi have given the new A6 some sort of touchpad or button transmission selector?
Either way, this new interior looks quite good and it’s going to be lovely. We know this even without seeing all of it, as it’s so similar to the A7’s and A8’s that it’s a pretty safe guess.
