While still fresh looking, Audi is working on a facelift for the current A4. It does’t really need one, as it still looks new and modern and is perfectly capable of standing next to its newer rivals without seeming dated. However, Germans aren’t known for their complacency, so the Audi A4 is getting a facelift and the Avant version was just caught doing some winter testing in the snow. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen here)
It’s not wildly different, this facelifted Audi A4, but it does have some subtle changes that make it look a bit better. Its Singleframe grille looks a bit smaller, with a fatter trim surround, and its new headlights lack the little fangs that the current car has. It’s still easily recognizable as an Audi A4 but it’s sleeker and cleaner looking up front now.
Out back, it’s even less different than the current car but it does have some new exhausts. Rather than the dual circles of the current Audi A4, this facelifted version gets dual rectangles. Not exactly headline news but it’s worth noting.
Under the skin, we don’t really know if there will be any significant changes but we can’t imagine anything too huge. Possibly a tweak in steering and suspension, maybe a bit extra power from some of its engines and it could even get the minor interior change or two.
So the Audi A4 Avant isn’t changed much from this new facelift but that’s probably a good thing. It’s such a good looking car as it is and one of the absolute best wagons on the market. Thanks to some newer looks, it looks cleaner and sharper than before, more ready to take on its newer competitors. Cars like the new BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Alfa Romeo Giulia are all very good looking, so it’s nice that the A4 got a bit of a refresh to keep up.
