A few days ago, we saw some new spy photos of the upcoming 2021 Audi Q5 Facelift. While the current Q5 is still a handsome car, we were actually quite impressed by the look of the upgraded version. It adds some welcome sportiness to its already handsome look. So it should sell quite well. One of the other areas of improvement for the Q5 Facelift is the interior. While the current car’s interior is a very nice place to be (as seen in above photo), it’s starting to show its age among newer competitors. So seeing the new interior in these new spy photos allows us to see how Audi is going to continue to compete. (We don’t own the spy photos but they can be seen at Motor1)
The main focus of the interior upgraded seems to be on tech. Gone is the old MMI screen, which was just tacked onto the dash, and in its place is the brand’s new Touch Response MMI screen. Which is also tacked onto the dash…
We’re a bit disappointed that the best Audi could come up with was literally nailing another screen, just a larger one, onto the dashboard. So it doesn’t really look any better. But at least the actual tech is much better now and far more competitive in the segment. As we’ve test several times before, the new Touch Response MMI screen is among the best touchscreen units in the business, if not the very best. Plus, it has more functionality than the old system in the current Audi Q5.
What’s interesting is that the Audi Q5 Facelift won’t get the same touch screen climate controls as the Audi Q7. It seems as if Audi is keeping the Q5 more on the sale tech/luxury level as the A4/A5. So even the new facelifted car keeps its physical climate control dials. Though, that might actually be a welcome “downgrade” in tech, as those physical dials are a bit easier to use while driving.
Aside from that, the center console gets a slight change as well. Since there’s no need for a rotary dial to control the MMI system, or the accompanying touch pad thing, the center console now gets a little cubby ahead of the shift knob. The driver in the photo has an iPhone in it and it will just be a little practical place to store stuff.
Though, that’s really the end of the changes for the interior. Which is fine, to be honest. The Audi Q5 has a great cabin and one that we have no complaints about, so getting one with better tech and slightly more storage space is a welcome upgrade.[Source: Motor1]
