SPIED: 2020 Audi Q4 gets caught in the wild

We’re just starting to get some looks and some information about the Audi Q4, as spy photos and rumors have begun trickling out. Though, it’s all very early info, so we don’t know much, and the photos are of heavily camouflaged cars. So it’s not like we’ve got the scoop on the car. Still, it’s interesting to get these brief little looks, like the ones seen in these new photos. (We don’t own the spy photos but see them here)

In the spy shots, we can clearly see a small, coupe-like Audi SUV wearing heavy camo testing on the street. It seems to have a very similar design language to the Audi Q3, which tells us that it’s an Audi Q4 and not something larger. Its coupe-like roofline tells us that it’s the sportier model, though, and one that will likely compete with the BMW X2 and Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class.

We can’t make out much from these photos, as this Audi Q4 test mule is very heavily camouflaged. Though, we can tell that it has a similar grille, headlights and taillights to the Q3. It also seems to have fake exhaust pipes (grrrr.)

Thankfully, it does seem like it will be better looking than its competitors. The BMW X2 is just plain odd looking and the Mercedes GLA-Class is boring. This looks like it could be the right blend of style and function, similar to the Audi Q8 which, aside from its massive grille, is starting to grow on us.

As for what’s under the skin, we still don’t know much for sure. But it’s not hard to take an educated guess. Being that it’s based on the new MQB architecture, the Audi Q4 will almost certainly be powered by all of the same engines as the Q3, have a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and Haldex-based Quattro all-wheel drive. There also might be an Audi SQ4 with a 300 hp turbocharged four-pot as well as a possible Audi RS Q4 with the same 2.5 liter turbocharged five-pot as the RS3 and TT RS.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
