We’re well aware that Audi is currently in the works developing the next-generation A8. We also know that Audi claims the next A8 will be the most technologically advanced Audi ever and the most advanced car in the segment when it debuts. So we’ve already heard quite a bit about the next A8. What we haven’t heard a lot about, and what enthusiasts would probably rather hear about, is the next Audi S8. (We don’t own the spy photos, but they can be seen here)
Fortunately, the 2018 Audi S8 was just caught driving around in the snow for the world to see. We can tell it’s an S8 rather than an A8 thanks to its quad exhaust tips. It’s also sitting quite low and wearing largish sporty wheels. Aside from those details, though, there’s hardly anything, if anything at all, to distinguish it from its standard sibling.
We don’t have any info about what will power the next Audi S8 but we have a sneaking suspicion that it will use the same 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 as in the new Porsche Panamera Turbo. The engine, despite sharing the same displacement and cylinder count as the last S8’s, is all new and was co-developed with Porsche. It’s also flipping brilliant and, in Porsche Panamera Turbo-guise, develops 542 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. Though, by the time the Audi S8 debuts, expect that power output to rise to around the 600 hp mark, where the current Audi S8 Plus resides.
