Audi is currently in the process of developing its next-generation “D5” Audi A8. The next-gen A8 will debut something in 2017 and they will be sold as 2018 models. Audi promises the next A8 to be the highly-technological car on the market and come with “Level 3” autonomy, which is autonomous driving capabilities under most circumstances but still requires a human driver.
Well, some spy photos have arisen of the next Audi A8 testing in the snow alongside a current-gen Audi A8 (we don’t own the photos but they can be found here). We’ve seen some of the new A8 before, so we already know that its face will be similar to that of the Audi Prologue Concept. Its wide and flat Singleframe grille takes up almost the entire face of the car and its headlights are far more angular than before. However, in these new spy shots, we see that the taillights are also far slimmer than before and also wider.
In one of the photos, we see a line of the new A8s in front of a current-gen A8 and we can use that to compare a bit. The new car actually seems like it will be both a bit lower and a bit taller than the outgoing model. But it also looks sleeker, wider and sharper. It sort of makes the old car seem bloated. While the roofline seems taller on the new car, the door sills actually seem lower, giving it more headroom while also having a bigger greenhouse inside. This will help with outward visibility as well as giving the cabin an overall feeling of airiness.
We’re excited about the next-gen Audi A8, as it promises to be an impressive car. And it’s going to need to be with how excellent the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series are.
