It was only a couple of days ago when we shared a video with a prototype of the second generation Audi R8 testing what seemed to be a turbocharged engine and now a new video has emerged but it’s significantly different. This time the engine inside the prototype appears to be the well-known naturally-aspirated V10 5.2-liter which will likely be uprated for the new R8.
The sound provided by the ten-cylinder engine is very familiar to that of the outgoing Audi flagship supercar. The Audi R8 prototype was wrapped around in a full body camouflage so there’s not a lot to tell as far as the design is concerned, but it’s safe to assume it will be an evolution of the current styling since products within the Volkswagen Group rarely get a radical makeover from one generation to another.
Audi has already confirmed the second generation Audi R8 will be launched at first with the familiar naturally-aspirated V8 4.2-liter and V10 5.2-liter engines but during the car’s lifespan a smaller and turbocharged engine will be installed, possibly a twin-turbo V6 as a replacement for the V8. This turbo-six will likely be utilized for the next RS4 and RS5 models as well.
According to the latest reports, Audi will unveil the next-gen R8 in the second half of the year.
