Following its public debut last month at Geneva Motor Show, the 2015 Audi R8 LMS has managed to obtain its first triumph in an official race. It was a one-two victory with the new GT3 sportscar last weekend in the VLN endurance championship at the Nürburgring where Christopher Mies and Nico Müller took the win in the second race, ahead of teammates Pierre Kaffer and Laurens Vanthoor.
The race took place in changeable weather conditions and after the first ten laps Christopher Mies and Audi DTM driver Nico Müller took the lead. Later on, the lead was changed several times in an exciting battle with Mercedes-Benz while from lap 18 the two drivers started to gradually increase their lead before crossing the finish line after 4 hours and with a 1 minute 27 second advantage over Laurens Vanthoor and Pierre Kaffer.
It should be mentioned this was the first victory on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife for the Audi Sport Team WRT from Belgium. This victory with the Audi R8 LMS comes after an extensive session of testing which kicked off back in spring 2014. Just like with its predecessor, the new LMS version borrows many components from the road-going version of the second generation R8 programmed to go on sale this summer.
