An image believed to depict the second generation Audi R8 has hit the web this past weekend. The attached pic was originally posted on Instagram by user “dreboog” but it’s no longer available as the account appears to be suspended. Luckily, major auto publications including WorldCarFans managed to grab the picture before it was taken down.
It’s not known whether the image does indeed show the second generation Audi R8 as there are some who believe it’s just a body kit installed on a different car. The car does appear to be slightly narrower than the outgoing R8 but on the other hand the hood’s cutaway and the shape and graphics of the headlights are identical to those of the prototypes spotted testing recently.
We’ll know for sure in less than a month as the second generation Audi R8 has been confirmed to debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Chances are the model will be revealed online prior to its public arrival at the Swiss show where Audi will also exhibit an e-tron variant.
The conventionally-powered model will come with upgraded versions of the naturally-aspirated V8 4.2 and V10 5.2-liter engines and will eventually get a smaller turbocharged gasoline engine. There are also some talks about a TDI derivative although nothing is official at this point.
