Second-gen Audi R8 will be cheaper in Australia than its predecessor, due mid-2016

Good news for those living in the Land Down Under as the second-gen Audi R8 will receive a price cut. It’s due to go on sale in Australia by mid-2016 and will be available in the range-topping Plus guise for less than $400,000 whereas the current model retails for $408,200. It’s a bit surprising that Audi Australia will lower the model’s price tag taking into account in UK and Germany the price tag of the second-gen is higher compared to the old car.

Ever since the first generation was introduced in Australia back in October 2007, Audi has managed to sell more than 400 units of its supercar and that number is set to grow once the second-gen will hit dealerships by the middle of next year. We remind you there won’t be an entry-level V8 4.2 FSI version anymore as Audi has decided to stop offering this engine on its flagship model.

The hand built R8 coupe will be joined within the next two years by a Spyder version which will obviously be more expensive. A new entry-level version with a six-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine is also expected before the end of the decade and needless to say it will be significantly cheaper than the V10-powered models.
