RAC has joined forces with Audi to try and take down the world record for most countries driven to on a single tank of fuel. The vehicle of choice is going to be a facelifted Audi A6 ultra and the attempt is scheduled to take place starting June 9 in the Netherlands. Taking turns behind the wheel of the frugal mid-size model are going to be motoring journalist Andrew Frankel and racing driver Rebecca
The journey will encompass more than 1,000 miles (1,609 km) and will go through various countries such as Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Austria, Germany and Italy towards the Balkans.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Audi A6 ultra, it comes with a very economical four-cylinder, 2.0-liter TDI engine developing 150 PS or 190 PS sent to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual gearbox or an S tronic. There’s also a gasoline version featuring a 1.8 TFSI engine with 190 PS transferred to the road via an S tronic transmission. These engines can also be had in the more practical Avant (wagon) version.
