A mysterious prototype was spotted testing on the Nürburgring and there are reasons to believe it was the Audi S3 Plus Sedan. It was March 2013 when we saw the S3 Sedan being unveiled and now a suspicious prototype has been spotted in the same guise but it appeared to sit a bit lower and also had some additional wiring usually seen on test cars.
One possible candidate is the addition of a hotter “Plus” derivative featuring the same EA888 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine but with the output bumped from the S3’s 300 PS and 380 Nm. There was a rumor at the beginning of the year of an S3 Plus which would fit between the regular S3 and the upcoming RS3.
According to that report, the Audi S3 Plus Sedan will have 375 PS and a maximum torque of almost 500 Nm whereas the regular S3 offers 380 Nm. If these rumors turn out to be true, expect the Audi S3 Plus Sedan to be a few ticks of a second quicker than the non Plus model which needs 4.9 seconds to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) when equipped with the S tronic gearbox or 5.3 seconds with the 6-speed manual. The top speed will probably be electronically limited at 155 mph (250 km/h) but an optional package could raise the limiter to a higher speed.
