The new Audi S5 is one of the more exciting cars to come from Audi in recent times. Replacing the still-handsome first-gen S5, this new second-gen car is very good looking and very impressive. But the best part about the new S5 is that in finally comes in three body styles in America.
The first-gen car only came in Coupe or Cabriolet form in the ‘States, while Europeans got three body styles, with the Sportback being the third. We never got the Sportback here in America, despite the complaints of many American enthusiasts. Now, though, Audi thankfully graced the U.S. with all three body styles for the second-gen S5.
All three body styles come with the same powerplant. So, under the hood lies a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6, with the turbocharger sitting in the back of the “V”, also called a “Hot-Vee” configuration. This reduces turbo-lag and creates a sharper throttle response. It also helps make 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox that drives all four wheels, via Quattro. All of that allows the S5 to get from 0-60 mph in anywhere between 4.4 seconds (Coupe) and 4.8 seconds (Cabriolet). So it’s damn quick.
There’s also an optional sport rear differential that allows power to be properly allocated between the rear wheels. This allows the S5 to rotate better through corners, power out of corners quicker and understeer less. For the enthusiast, the rear diff is a must-have.
The new, second-gen Audi S5 is an awesome car in all variants. So here’s a photo gallery of all three body styles. Check it out below.
