Patents reveal upcoming Audi TT RS design

We’ve been waiting patiently for any info about the new TT RS. The previous TT RS was one of our favorite Audi’s, as it was fast, fun and made a great noise from its 2.5 liter turbocharged inline-five cylinder engine. Well, the upcoming replacement for it is on its way, but we’ve heard very little about it and it’s about time we got some info. Well, CarScoops recently got their hands on design patents for the upcoming 2017 Audi TT RS and it looks promising.

In the design patents, you can see that Audi is staying pretty safe with the design, but it will come with a more aggressive face. New front bumpers and lower air vents will be added to the already attractive front end design of the Audi TT. The wheel arches also seem to be a bit more flared than before. The rear will also get a new bumper with a new diffuser that will sit in between twin oval tailpipes. Aside from that, however, it won’t be much different than before.

We still don’t know what kind of powertrain will power the upcoming TT RS, but it’s likely to be the same 2.5 liter turbo-five as the previous model. That’s not such a bad thing, though, as that engine is fantastic in the RS3 and has familial connections to the original Audi Quattro. A six-speed manual was exclusive in the previous TT RS but Audi’s seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox will most likely be the only gearbox available. We’re excited about the new TT RS and these design patents only heighten that excitement.
