Oris Audi Sport Limited Edition II

Cookies and milk, Football and beer, cars and watches. These are things that go together so well that it’s an impossibility not to have an appreciation for both if you appreciate one. Watches are just as mechanically impressive, if not more so, than cars. Well, mechanical watches, that is. So people who appreciate cars also appreciate a fine timepiece. Sometimes, something happens that makes fans of both cars and watches very happy. This is when watchmakers make a special edition watch for an automaker.

That’s exactly what happened here with the Oris Audi Sport Limited Edition II. The Oris Audi Sport is dedicated to the ground-breaking Audi R18 e-tron quattro race car and its victories. There’s even a silhouette of the R18 on the watch’s case back. The case is made out of titanium with black DLC plating with a ceramic minutes scale top ring for the tachymeter. The case is 44 mm in diameter and features a stainless steel screw-down crown and stainless steel button pushers, all of which are black DLC plated.

The Oris 778 Base SW 500 movement is a 25 jewel automatic chronograph with a 48 hour power reserve and a 28’800 A/h, 4 Hz frequency. The black face is accompanied by two subsidiary dials for continuous seconds, a 30 minutes counter, day/date window and numerals and hands in Superluminova GL Black. Typically all black-faced watches look like wanna mobster watches, but it looks absolutely fantastic on this watch. Oris did a good job of making the all black color scheme look purposeful and sporty while still being perfectly legible.

The only strap available is a black perforated leather strap with a black DLC plated clasp. The black perforated leather strap adds an air of motorsport to this watch, which is exactly what Oris intended. This watch is supposed to honor the Audi R18 race car and its all black color scheme, titanium case and ceramic bezel do just that. Often times, car inspired watches go too far overboard and have carbon fiber this and carbon fiber that, without add any attractive aesthetics. It’s just overblown nonsense to make customers feel sporty. This watch, though, looks aggressive and sporty but stays reserved enough to be worn all the time without looking like a poser.

The Oris Audi Sport Limited Edition II usually costs around $3,999 and that’s a good price for a Swiss-made, limited edition, Audi-inspired automatic chronograph with a titanium case and ceramic bezel. This is an exciting watch for and Audi enthusiast and one any fan of the four-ringed brand should take a serious look at.
