The forthcoming next generation Audi R8 Spyder has been speculatively rendered to show how the open-top supercar could look like. You don’t have to be an avid fan to imagine how the open-top second-gen R8 will look like taking into account Audi doesn’t make any significant styling changes between a coupe and a convertible, with the obvious exception of the roof.
A new R8 Spyder will likely be introduced in the second half of next year as a 2017MY and should look a lot like this attached speculative render showing the base V10 version. There’s also going to be a beefier V10 Plus model that will be visually distinguishable by its slightly more aggressive body encompassing a fixed rear wing along with larger alloy wheels.
Don’t hold your breath for a V8-powered version as Audi has previously said the 4.2-liter engine won’t make it in this second generation R8, but there will be a smaller motor, possibly a turbocharged V6 unit. In addition, Audi is analyzing the prospects of coming out with a TDI-powered R8, something that they did on the first-gen R8 which was supposed to receive a V12 TDI engine but it never did and the motor eventually found its way under the hood of the Volkswagen Touareg.
