The current Audi A5, penned by the great Walter da Silva, is possibly the best looking vehicle that Audi ever put into production. It’s a gorgeous design that’s both muscular and elegant. It’s genuinely a difficult car to beat, in terms of looks. However, a redesign of the A5 is on its way and will make its debut in 2017.
Built on Audi’s new MLB platform, the upcoming Audi A5 will be lighter, stiffer and sharper than the car it replaces. It will use the same five-link suspension setup as the brand-new Audi A4, so it should improve on the already good-handling A5. But what we really want to know is what the next Audi A5 will look like. Well, according to recent spy photos, it should looks relatively similar to the previous model, but with some new elements from the Audi Prologue Concept. Much like the A4, the A5 will gain an evolutionary design change, rather than a revolutionary one. Which is good.
The Audi A5 will compete with the very sharp BMW 4 Series and the absolutely gorgeous Mercedes-Benz C Class Coupe, so it will have its hands full when it finally debuts. While the 4 Series probably won’t be as good looking (though looks subjective), it’s a very good handling car and a great sports car and tough to beat dynamically. The Mercedes C Class Coupe is stunning looking and has an interior worthy of a Bentley Continental GT. So the A5 will have a tough job beating these two cars. Though, if it’s anything like a sportier B9 Audi A4, it should be up to the task. Check Autocar for the spy photos.
