German magazine Autobild is reporting that Mercedes-Benz could be cooking up a competitor for the Audi TT. They don’t go into too many details but apparently the model in question is going to be a sporty coupe derivative of the next generation A-Class. If green-lighted for production, expect the model to be powered by an array of four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines.
Autobild goes on to specify that if Daimler-owned Mercedes-Benz will approve the project, the Audi TT rival will likely see the light of production day sometime in 2019 as a coupe which later on would be joined by a roadster version to compete directly with the Audi TT Roadster.
This new model will likely be offered with a standard front-wheel drive version while select versions could get a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system, just like the TT is FWD standard but for more money can be fitted with a quattro AWD system.
One can speculate the model will use the SLA moniker and will be positioned underneath the SLK which will be renamed SLC once the facelift will be out in the following months.
