The Audi RS3 Sportback might be outgunned in the power department by the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG facelift. In an interview with British magazine Autocar, AMG chief executive Tobias Moers said the updated A45 AMG will be out in the third quarter of 2015 and “will be the most powerful again.” The publication goes on to specify that Daimler’s hot hatchback will use an uprated variant of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine that will churn 380 HP (280 kW).
If this will actually happen, the A45 AMG facelift is going to be 13 HP (10 kW) more powerful than the Audi RS3 Sportback. Torque will likely increase as well from the current 450 Nm while the RS3 has 465 Nm so the A45 AMG could beat Ingolstadt’s hot hatch in the torque department as well.
The added oomph of the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG facelift will likely shave off 0.1 seconds from the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint which will likely take 4.5 seconds, still 0.2s slower than the Audi RS3 Sportback.
Sources cited by Autocar are saying the A45 AMG will also get new parts that will further differentiate it from the lesser A-Class models.
