According to a report published by Auto Motor und Sport, the Mercedes-AMG division is allegedly planning an Audi TT rival. It’s the second time we are hearing this rumor but now AMS says the model is actually being prepared by Mercedes-AMG and will reportedly be based on the next generation of the A-Class which is bound to ride on the MFA2 platform.
The model in question will be a coupe set to look more stylish and perhaps more aggressive than the regular A-Class and it will eventually spawn a convertible version to compete with the Audi TT Roadster. Taking into account a facelift for the A-Class will be out in the months to come, the next generation of Daimler’s entry-level model won’t be out sooner than 2018 which means these rumored coupe and convertible derivatives are likely coming out in 2019. By then, Audi will likely introduce a facelift for the TT.
Aside from an Audi TT rival, the same report from Auto Motor und Sport says Mercedes-Benz is also cooking up a competitor for the Porsche Panamera which will be part of the next generation E-Class family. It will take the shape of a four-door coupe with a standalone design and could see the light of day in 2016 when the new E-Class is bound to hit the market.
