This current-generation of B9 Audi S4 isn’t the most beloved S4 in history. Of course, it’s objectively better than every S4 that preceded it, thanks to its blend of power, performance, comfort, efficiency and technology. However, it’s often left enthusiasts a bit cold, with them preferring the more charismatic models of the past. However, this new review from Jalopnik actually argues that the S4 is a genuinely good sports sedan.
Now that it’s had its mid-cycle facelift, the B9 Audi S4 gets the same new looks as the standard A4. So it gets new headlights, a new grille and some interior tweaks to keep it looking fresh. Thankfully, Audi kept its powertrain and chassis as good as they were.
Powering the Audi S4 is a 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 that makes 354 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. It can get from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds is seriously fast. I can remember when Lamborghinis had 0-60 mph times of 4.4 seconds. So that’s fast. That engine is paired with an eight-speed auto and powers all four wheels.
None of that is new information, as the current S4 has been on sale for years now. However, it’s nice to know that the recipe used is still an effective one.
This review claims that the Audi S4 is all the sports car you need. It’s more than fast enough, has good steering and great handling, is comfortable, good looking, efficient and fun. This is a bit of a contrast from what we’re used to hearing about the S4. Typically, we hear that it’s good but not great; that its performance and handling capabilities are objectively very good but it doesn’t do any of it with any sort of enthusiasm.
So to hear that the Audi S4 is a proper sports sedan is encouraging. It’s been awhile since we’ve driven one so we’re anxious to get back behind the wheel and see how good it still is.
