This is actually a bit of an oldie. Evo magazine’s Henry Catchpole goes to Finland to try out the Audi RS3 Sportback in the snow and shows off that it can properly rally. He also gets a ride alone with Mattius Ekström, a Swedish rally driver, who demonstrates just how much fun, yet still how controllable, the RS3 is on heavy powder.
With its 362 hp 2.5 liter turbocharged engine, Quattro all-wheel drive, hatchback body style and proper rally credentials, the RS3 Sportback is an Audi Quattro reincarnate. It just goes like hell and is unfazed by the ridiculous snow and cold weather. It just slides along with ease and seems utterly controllable, even in Finland’s harsh winter. It sounds incredible as well.
This video fills me, and I’m sure you as well, with so much want. It makes me infuriatingly jealous of the European market, because they are the only ones fortunate enough to be able to buy it. I would settle for an RS3 sedan, but who knows if that will even actually make it here or not. Hopefully, one day, the RS3 Sportback will make it to the shores of the US, so I can sell a couple of organs to buy one. If that day ever comes, I’ll be patiently waiting for a winter day like the one in the video so I can put my rally skills to the test. Until then, I’ll watch this video and pretend.
