A significant amount of details have emerged concerning the highly anticipated Audi RS3 programmed to go on sale in 2015. British automotive journalists from Auto Express had the opportunity to get inside the hot hatchback together with Audi and they found out some juicy details about the range-topping A3. Now we know for sure the vehicle will retain the iconic five-cylinder 2.5-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine which in this latest application will be updated to deliver somewhere in the region of 360 bhp (268 kW).
Aside from being more powerful than its predecessor which has 335 bhp, the new Audi RS3 will also be 55 kg lighter as a result of switching to Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform which will lower the vehicle’s curb weight to approximately 3,351 lbs (1,520 kg). The vehicle is going to come with a 25mm lowered sport suspension compared to the S3 and it will also have wider tracks.
At an additional cost, customer will be able to order wider front tires while a new 6-speed S tronic transmission will be standard and will work with a quattro all-wheel drive system. Performance figures have not been released, but we remind you the previous Audi RS3 needs 4.6 seconds for the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and the new one should be at least 0.3 – 0.4s quicker.
