Car Throttle Host Buys Girlfriend Mk1 Audi TT 225

If you’ve seen any videos from Car Throttle, you’d know that the love buying hilariously cheap — yet high-potential — sports cars and bringing them back to life. Just recently, Car Throttle host Alex Kersten bought an inexpensive sports car for his girlfriend and made an excellent choice — the Mk1 Audi TT 225.

For those that don’t know, the Audi TT 225 was the best version of the original Audi TT. It was essentially a 225 horsepower version of the Audi TT 1.8T, thanks to a K04 turbocharger for its four-cylinder engine. That little bit of extra power made it almost as fast as the V6 version but still quite a bit lighter over the nose, so the 225 was more fun than the V6 to drive. It also get two upgraded intercoolers and a proper six-speed transmissions.

In typical Car Throttle fashion, the Audi TT 225 needs some work and is getting it but it’s still an awesome car that Alex bought for his girlfriend.

Alex surprised her by pulling the car up in front of a driveway with a big red bow on it. It’s a great spec as well, with a blue finish and the proper USP wheels, which only came on a handful of cars at the time. In fact, only the Audi TT 225, B6 Audi A4, B5 Audi RS4 and C5 Audi RS6 came with those wheels as standard. So they were reserved for special cars and now she’s got em.

There’s not much love for the original Audi TT, at least not as much as there should be, but it’s a really fun little car and one that anyone who likes cars should be happy to get. Especially the TT 225, which is the most fun of all the Mk1 TTs to drive.

What a great gift to get a significant other, especially when it comes from Alex, who’s known for buying really fun, inexpensive sports cars. Kudos.
