That’s a bold statement, indeed. The new B9 Audi A4 the best car Audi’s ever made? What about the Audi Quattro or the first-gen Audi R8? Well, according to Business Insider, the new A4 sedan is the best car Audi has ever made simply because it does everything right. It might not be sexy in any one area but there’s really nothing it’s bad at. Okay, so some Audi fans may be scoffing at this idea right now. In fact, many Audi fans wouldn’t even say that the new B9 A4 is the best Audi A4 ever made. However, BI does have some valid points that the new B9 A4 is the best all-around vehicle to ever wear four rings.
It all starts underneath the skin. Never has an A4 been so technologically advanced and never has it been built on such a sophisticated chassis. The MLB Evo platform that underpins the new Audi A4 is the same one underneath the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga and even the upcoming Lamborghini Urus. It’s a sensational and high-tech chassis architecture that features some of the most cutting edge techniques in the auto industry. That allows the A4 to be impressively light and rigid without costing a fortune. In turn, the new A4 handles better than any car to bear the same name and is one of the best driving cars in its class. But because this is the same chassis that needs to carry a Bentley, it’s incredibly smooth, stable and quiet at any speed.
Then there’s the technology. Audi packs a serious suite of safety, luxury and entertainment technology into the new Audi A4, namely the its newest MMI system and Virtual Cockpit. It’s almost impossible to not fall in love with the Virtual Cockpit, a fully digital instrument cluster that allows for complete customization from the driver’s seat. This means that the driver can receive the exact information desired in a clear and easy to read fashion. It also looks brilliant, has fantastic graphics and Google Earth capability. I’ve yet to meet someone who wasn’t wowed by it.
On the inside, the Audi A4 is a masterclass in interior design. Its build quality far exceeds its competition, as does its design and ergonomics. In fact, the A4’s cabin is a few steps up on some even cars costing twice as much. But that leads us to another point — its price.
While a loaded example of the A4 2.0T Quattro can run into the mid-$50,000 range, it offers a superb amount of car for the price. Its 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine makes 252 hp and it also gets a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as standard. Combined, those allow the A4 to get from 0-60 mph in the low five-second range, all of which is best-in-class. And that’s sort of the point BI is making, that Audi has never made such a complete, competent and competitive vehicle in its history. Previous generation Audi A4s were great cars but none of them excelled in as many ways as this new car. In fact, there may not be another Audi ever that offers such a complete package. Is it the best Audi ever made? Maybe, maybe not. Is it the most complete Audi ever? Probably, yea.
