AWE releases new exhaust suite for B9-gen Audi S5 Coupe

If there was one major complaint about the second-gen B9 Audi S5 Coupe it’d be its emotion, or lack thereof. Its turbocharged engine simply doesn’t have the enthusiasm of the supercharged one it replaces, despite making more torque and being faster. It just doesn’t sound as exciting and that makes a big difference in terms of driver engagement. Thankfully, there are several tuning companies that can remedy such problems. One of them is AWE and they’ve just released a new exhaust suite for the new Audi S5.

Most exhaust companies and tuning companies tend to make turbocharged engines sound absurd, in their attempts to make them more exciting. They typically just make more noise, rather than sound better. However, AWE promises a better sounding, proper exhaust system. “Our B8 platform led the market and turned the 3.0T into something different, something refined, and something more powerful. The B9 3.0T S5 Coupe is going to follow in the tradition of class-leading exhausts,” stated Jesse Kramer, VP of Marketing at AWE.

This new exhaust suite for the Audi S5 Coupe will bring three different options, in terms of sound and design — Touring Edition, Track Edition and Switchpath. Touring Edition is designed to create a more aggressive growl than the standard S5’s exhaust but remain sophisticated and rather subdued. In the video’s posted below, you can hear that it’s a bit barkier than the standard car but not so much to be obnoxious. Track Edition is, as its name suggests, designed for a car that will be hitting the track. It’s the loudest of the three and by far the most aggressive. It also sounds very good, if you ask me. Switchpath has electronically-controlled valving, so it can be made quieter or louder with the push of a button. The difference is quite impressive, actually, and it sounds good in either mode.

All variants are made from CNC mandrel-bent T304L stainless steel and are direct bolt-ons. None of them will set the Check Engine light off and all will be perfectly compatible. The design of the exhaust tips is also quite subtle, even the Track Edition. There are currently two exhaust tip styles available, chrome silver or diamond black, with carbon fiber coming soon.

It isn’t just to make the car look and sound better, though. The AWE Exhaust Suite brings and additional 16 hp and 17 lb-ft of torque. While that’s not a ton, and barely noticeable, it does add power, so it’s not just for looks and noise.

If you’re looking to upgrade the sound of your Audi S5 Coupe, this AWE exhaust could be the right choice. It offers a ton of options, between three different exhaust styles and three different tip styles, as well as exhaust tip sizes, from 90mm to 120mm. So you can really tailor it to your liking and make your Audi S5 sound like the sports car it really is.

I've been in love with cars since I was a kid, specifically German cars. Now I get to drive them talk about them on the internet.
