Audi has released a new video entitled “The Magic Box” which serves as an announcement for the Q7’s impending debut at NAIAS. The entertaining clip tells us the second generation of Ingolstadt’s full-size SUV will make its world premiere on January 12 in Detroit before going on sale this spring, with prices starting at around €61,000 in Germany.
While the styling is far from being a breath of fresh air, what lies underneath the familiar skin is much more impressive and important. Perhaps the major novelty is the Q7’s massive weight loss of 325 kg (716,5 lbs) which has allowed the 2015 Audi Q7 3.0 TDI engine drop under the 2,000 kg mark, with a curb weight of 1,955 kg (4,398 lbs). Although it’s 37mm shorter and 15mm narrower than its predecessor, the overhauled Q7 promises to offer an additional 21mm between the first and second rows of seats while headroom has increased by 41mm front & 23mm rear.
Customers will have the possibility of getting their Q7 with xenon, LED or matrix LED headlights as well as with a Bose or 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, with the latter providing 3D sound and 1,920 watts of power. Also inside there’s a 10.1-inch Android-running tablet, revised MMI system and a 12.3-inch digital configurable instrument cluster.
