Audi has won the DTM manufacturers’ championship in style with an exceptional 1-2-3 finish during the season finale at Hockenheim in Germany. Although BMW took the win in the drivers’ championship with Marco Witmann, Audi still has a lot to celebrate after their 1-2-3 victory in the last race of the season which allowed the team to recuperate a 21 point deficit and end with a massive 30 point lead.
At the end of the season, Audi took the win after grabbing 409 points while arch rival BMW came in second with 379 points and was followed in third place by Mercedes-Benz with 222 points. The race was won by Mattias Ekström driving the Red Bull Audi RS5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline who also finished the season as a runner-up in the drivers’ championship.
Mike Rockenfeller behind the wheel of the Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Phoenix grabbed second place in the race and finished the season third overall, while Jamie Green in the Hoffmann Group Audi RS 5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Rosberg finished third.
Audi managed to win the DTM manufacturers’ championship with help from other drivers as Timo Scheider (AUTO TEST Audi RS 5 DTM) and Miguel Molina (Audi Sport Audi RS 5 DTM) finished sixth and ninth place, respectively, thus no less than five Audi drivers finished the race in top ten.
