Audi UK has hit the two million sales milestone, fifty years after entering the UK market with a model simply known as “The Audi.” Back in its inaugural year in United Kingdom, Audi sold only 32 cars and now they hit the 2M mark with an A3 Sportback e-tron plug-in hybrid which represents the first of its kind for Audi.
For those who like figures, it should be mentioned Audi UK sold 14,344 units back in 1991 and they broke the 100,000 target for the first time in 2007 while last year deliveries stood at 158,987 units. UK is an important market for Audi’s bold objective of surpassing the two million annual global sales which could occur before the end of the decade taking into account in 2014 they sold 1,741,000 cars.
Getting back to “The Audi”, it was commercially available as a two-door coupe, four-door sedan and also as an estate. The model is being considered as the precursor of the Audi 80 and 90 which later evolved in the A4 we know today. Speaking of the A4, the compact sedan is about to reach a new generation (B9) which will likely be unveiled in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
