This third-generation Audi TT is easily the best in the model’s history. The third-gen TT is finally the sports car that Audi had always promised it would be. The TTS, however, is even better. Packing a 2.0 liter TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine, shared with the Audi S3, the TTS develops 292 hp. That punchy little engine is mated to a seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox and powers all four wheels via Quattro all-wheel drive.
We drove the standard TT a little while back and it was tons of fun. We notice that it had good steering, with nice weight and great accuracy, the ride was firm but compliant and always felt planted and the engine was punchy enough to be a lot of fun. The TTS just amplifies all of those qualities and makes it a proper sports car.
This Tango Red Metallic (which is becoming my new favorite color) example of the Audi TTS at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show looks great. That rear diffuser flanked by quad exhaust pips looks flipping brilliant and the active rear wing is just plain cool. I love how its proportions make it seem rear-driven, when in fact it’s all-wheel drive. It even looks mid-engined, though it’s front-engined. Just great looks that match the great sports car underneath.
