Top Gear magazine has selected the third generation Audi TT as the Coupe of the Year.
The UK magazine praised the 2.0 TDI ultra version which comes with 184 HP and 380 Nm from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel which allows the coupe to return 67 mpg UK with corresponding CO2 emissions of only 110 g/km. The test team says the engine feels “smooth, quiet and punchy” and the 2.0 TDI variant was the version that impressed TG the most as it enables a “happy balance.”
One of the other reasons why the judges picked the Audi TT as the Coupe of the Year had to do with the car’s standard 12.3-inch TFT digital customizable cluster which has replaced the conventional analog dials. Instead, the car gets “brilliantly sharp digital equivalents” which can be minimized in order to make room for other functions like the navigation map or the media screens. Talking about the TT’s interior cabin, the Top Gear test team says it “works logically and brilliantly” since just about everything can be easily controlled from the steering wheel.
Already on sale in United Kingdom, the Top Gear UK’s Coupe of the Year has a starting price of £29,770 and goes up to £35,335 but if you want the hotter TT S version you will have to pay £38,790 and wait until April 2015 when deliveries are programmed to commence.
