Audi triumphs at Spa 24 Hours

Audi has managed to secure another major motorsport win, this time triumphing in the grueling 2014 Spa 24 Hours endurance race. No less than eleven marques and sixty participants battled for the win but in the end Audi’s R8 LMS ultra crossed the line victorious for the third time in the last four years. It was the 90th anniversary of the classic race in Ardennes and the Belgian-based Audi Club Team WRT won at home with the trio consisting of Laurens Vanthoor/René Rast/Markus Winkelhock.

We remind you that back in June, Audi won this year’s edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours with the R18 e-tron quattro while a week later they triumphed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours race with the R8 LMS ultra. At Spa 24 Hours, the Laurens Vanthoor/René Rast/Markus Winkelhock trio began the race on pole position and was in the lead for the first two hours while the numerous accidents which occurred after that changed the rankings, causing the trio to go down on sixth but in the seventh hour of the race Laurens Vanthoor reclaimed first position.

Later on, because of the different pit strategies, BMW team Marc VDS Racing went on top but the three Audi drivers reduced the difference and in the 21st hour of the race managed to grab first place once again but briefly lost it because he had to change the brake pads. The Audi driver returned on track and secured first place with 75 minutes to go until the end of the race. In the final hour of the race, different pit strategies changed the leader yet again but in the end it was Audi that won at Spa 24 Hours.
