Audi to debut new Concept Car, OLED light at Frankfort Motor Show

Audi has recently announced that it will be debuting a brand new concept car, along with some other new technologies, at the upcoming 2015 Frankfort Motor Show. Obviously, Audi hasn’t said what this new Concept Car will be, but we can speculate a bit. More on that later. What Audi did mention was the it will feature its latest OLED light technology.

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. OLED lights are very exciting, as they are extremely efficient, requiring only 3-4 volts of electricity, produce almost no heat, are made up of only two layers that are each less than a thousandth of a millimeter thick, and also require no reflectors. They’re also extremely bright and can be shaped into nearly anything, so designers will have a field day with them.

The Concept Car is even more exciting news. We don’t know what it is yet, but it’s possible it could be the upcoming Q6 Concept. Being that Audi has been talking quite a bit about taking Tesla head on, lately, it stands to reason that it could use the Frankfort Motor Show to prove to the world that Audi means business. The Q6 is supposedly going to be an ell-electric SUV with a similar powertrain setup as the Audi R8, giving it 500 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque with real-time torque vectoring all-wheel drive.

We don’t know for sure if the concept is going to be the Q6, but it seems likely. All we know is that with the combination of Audi’s Concept announcement and OLED technology display, Audi’s booth is one you won’t want to miss. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them and for complete coverage of the Frankfort Motor Show.
