We recently spoke about Audi’s teaser for the Q1 SUV, the GIF showing all Audi SUVs in a parking lot with one spot empty. But we know believe this upcoming SUV to be the Audi Q2. The upcoming Audi Q2 will be a couple-like SUV, one smaller than the current Q3 and that will be more of a lifted hatchback than actual SUV. Think Mercedes-Benz GLA Class. Well, Audi has just teased this new Q2 again, before its Geneva Motor Show debut, in March, with a couple of pictures of the Q2 under cloth.
The upcoming Audi Q2 will be built on the new MQB platform, the same platform that underpins the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. It will likely use a variant of VW Group’s 1.4 liter turbocharged engine as well as Audi’s 2.0 liter turbocharged engine, along with some diesels for European markets. These engines will be paired to either a six-speed manual or Audi’s seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch automatic.
The Audi Q2 should differentiate itself from the Q3 by being far more coupe-like. It will have a more aggressive roofline than that of the Q3 and will be sportier looking. This will likely affect headroom in the rear, but it will create a very sporty look that a youth market will really enjoy.
Hopefully, this upcoming Q2 is a bit more dynamic and exciting to drive than the Q3, as we sampled the Audi Q3 a while back and it was actually a bit of a snooze machine. The Q3 is competent and comfortable but boring. The Audi Q2 could be the opposite, being a little less luxurious and a bit firmer, but more fun to drive and more dynamic. Hopefully, the Q2 airs more on the S3 hatchback side than the Q3 side.
