Internet GIFs are all the rage these days, regardless of how you properly pronounce them. Audi has jumped on board by created a GIF that teases at the upcoming Audi Q1 crossover. It’s actually quite clever, as it shows four adjacent parking spaces in a parking garage with the rightmost three spaces filled with Audi SUVs. The GIF pans from right to left, showing the Audi Q7, Audi Q7, Audi Q3 and then a blank space with a “preserved” license plate on the wall and the word “Soon” appearing on the screen.
This GIF is teasing at the fact that the Q1 will soon come to round out the brand’s SUV lineup. Although, this is about as much detail as we have on the Q1’s release. There’s no official word as to when it will debut, but it’s likely that the upcoming Geneva Motor Show is where it happens, as this teaser came out just a month before.
The Audi Q1 will be built on Audi’s MQB platform, the same one that underpins the A3 and Q3 SUVs. A 1.4 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be paired to a six-speed manual or Audi’s seven-speed S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox in the starting model. A 1.4 liter TDI engine will also be offered and a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine will likely be on tap for the highest-end model.
There’s no official word if the Q1 will come to the US or not, but it’s likely as Audi will have to compete with Mercedes-Benz and its GLA Class and eventually BMW and its X2. If the Q1 does make the trip across the Atlantic, it’s likely to only bring the 2.0 liter engine with it, as the North American market never seems to get any of the other engines, petrol or otherwise.
