New details are starting to emerge about the Audi SQ7 scheduled to go on sale sometime next year. In an interview with British magazine Auto Express, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg announced an SQ7 version of the second generation Q7 full-size SUV is set for a 2016 release and it will be powered by a V8 e-turbo diesel engine.
He didn’t disclose any other details but Auto Express believes the engine will have a 4.0 or 4.2 displacement and will produce in excess of 400 bhp (298 kW). Based on these assumptions, expect the Audi SQ7 to cover the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in around 5.5 seconds.
During the same interview, Hackenberg went on to specify the Q7 could eventually gain an off-road version, but for the moment there doesn’t seem to be a demand for such a model which means Audi will wait until they will create a viable business case. Even if green-lighted for production, thus off-road Q7 will probably be available in limited numbers.
As for the Audi SQ7, it will obviously sit on top of the range and will command a serious premium over the lesser versions although an exact price tag is not available at this point.
