The Audi Sport TT Cup calendar has been revealed ahead of next year’s inaugural season. All twelve races will be organized as part of the DTM season, with the first event scheduled for May 01-03 at Hockenheim. It will be followed by the races in Norisring (Jun 26 – 28), Red Bull Ring (Jul 31 – Aug 02), Oschersleben (Sep 11 – 13), Nurburgring (Sep 25 – 27) and once again at Hockenheim (Oct 16 – 18).
Audi says they have received 165 applications from 30 countries for the 18 available slots. No less than 39 candidates from 13 European countries as well as from Australia and China had to prove their skills on December 12 and 13 during an initial evaluation course organized in Neuburg an der Donau.
The first partner for the Audi Sport TT Cup is tire manufacturer Hankook which will supply all the necessary tires for the cars. Speaking of the cars, the racer has been developed by quattro GmbH and is based on the third generation TT Coupe. It went through a considerable diet as it now weighs only 1,125 kg and is motivated by a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter TFSI engine developing 310 HP (228 kW) and more than 400 Nm of torque channeled to the wheels via a 6-speed S tronic gearbox.
The Audi Sport TT Cup also benefits from a more aerodynamic wide body which includes a massive rear wing and a front splitter made from carbon fiber. It comes equipped with matrix LED headlights, extended fender flares while inside the stripped out cabin it packs a roll cage, digital instrument cluster, fire extinguishing system and a multi-function steering wheel along with a PS1 safety seat derived from its larger brother, the R8 LMS ultra.
