This coming weekend (December 2/3) will see the start of the latest season of Formula E. It will also be the very first double-header in Formula E, with one race being held on Saturday and one on Sunday. During this double-header season opener, Audi Sport will be back, competing as a factory team in motorsport for the first time since its departure from WEC. It will also be the first time Audi competes as a factory team with electric race cars, which is cause for celebration.
“The past few weeks were intensive and exciting for the whole squad,” says Head of Audi Motorsport Dieter Gass. “Now, everyone is happy to finally be traveling to the race track and competing for points and trophies again.”
Daniel Abt and Champion Lucas di Grassi will be the drivers for Team Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler and will be driving the brand-new Audi e-tron FE04. Abt is ready for the start of the season, saying “We’ve been working hard in recent weeks – during tests on the track, in the simulator and in our preparations with the engineers. Obviously, we’ll only know in Hong Kong where we stand compared with the competition. But we’ve done our homework.”
This past summer, we had the chance to attend the Brooklyn Gran Prix Formula E race and saw what it’s like first hand. It’s far more exciting than a lot of enthusiasts imagine and the action is great. The races are short, the cars are quick and the driving is great. We’re very interested in seeing what Audi can do as an actual factory team in this new sport. Especially since there’s been an Audi-sized hole in motorsport ever since its departure from the WEC.
If you’re a fan of motorsport or a fan of Audi or both, be sure to check out the Formula E race this weekend.
