Audi S8 Tuned By ABT To 700 Horsepower Is The Perfect RS8 Substitute

Audi may have decided against making an RS8 Sedan, but that’s not stopping tuners from building an unofficial one. ABT got its hands on the S8 and tinkered with the twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 in its quest to extract more power. At 571 hp and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft), the series S8 isn’t exactly a slouch, but there’s always room for more.

As ABT has demonstrated with previous builds, a bit of software wizardry can go a long way. Case in point, this Mafia-approved Audi “RS8” has been bumped to a colossal 700 hp and 880 Nm (649 lb-ft). Thanks to the newly gained oomph, the fullsize sports sedan can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in a mere 3.4 seconds or 0.4s quicker than the standard model. For something that weighs 2,230 kilograms (4,916 pounds) in stock form, these are some mind-blowing performance numbers.

Go for an S8 fitted with the optional ceramic brakes and ABT will happily bump the top speed limiter from 155 mph (250 km/h) to 168 mph (270 km/h). Those willing to reach deeper into their wallets can ask the tuner to throw in a set of 21-inch custom wheels like the ones featured in the adjacent images. This particular blacked-out “RS8” also has a subtle carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler serving as a tiny reminder this isn’t the standard version of Audi’s super sedan.

While you’ll likely never need a sedan that packs 700 hp and can top out at 168 mph, it’s nice to know these numbers can be unlocked at the press of an accelerator pedal. People buying Mercedes-AMG S63s and S65s will agree, and so will those who own a BMW M760i. Hot SUVs may be all the rage these days, but there’s something special about a big and heavy sedan with supercar-like performance.
