British magazine Auto Express decided to do a duel between the Audi S3 Sedan and Subaru WRX STI. It’s a rare occasion to see an Audi model being pitted against a Subaru but now it has been done and it is an interesting duel since at a first sight you would think the S3 Sedan is very different than the mighty WRX STI. In a drag race organized on an empty section of a British runway, the Audi S3 Sedan proved to be quicker than its Japanese rival, a surprising result taking into consideration the heritage of the WRX STI.
It’s also surprising because the Audi S3 Sedan has a smaller engine with less power and torque but even so it managed to beat the Subaru WRX STI, proving once again that when comparing two cars we shouldn’t rely entirely on the technical specifications sheet.
As a reminder, the hot small sedan from Ingolstadt is powered by a 2.0 TFSI 4-cylinder engine rated at 300 PS (221 kW) and 380 Nm, enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 5.3 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox the car tested had. As for the Subaru WRX STI, this one comes with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine developing 305 PS (227 kW) and 393 Nm (290 lb-ft) sent to both axles through a six-speed manual transmission
