Motorsport Magazine decided to conduct an acceleration duel between the 2014 Audi S1 and the Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy. Audi’s pocket rocket weighs 1,315 kg (2,899 lbs) and is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine developing 231 HP (170 kW) and a peak torque of 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) to both axles.
As for the Megane hot hatch, this one tips the scales at 1,376 kg (3,033 lbs) so it’s a bit heavier but it packs more punch as its 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine delivers 275 HP (202 kW) and 360 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque to the front wheels.
In terms of pricing, the 2014 Audi S1 will set you back €29,950 at home in Germany whereas the Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy is significantly more expensive at €35,990. In the attached video you can see the 2014 Audi S1 is faster in the beginning but several seconds after the duel starts, the Megane’s extra power kicks in and eventually the Renault takes the win as it’s the first one to hit the 250 km/h (155 mph).
It should be mentioned that Renault has released the Megane RS 275 Trophy-R which is now the fastest front-wheel drive car around the Nürburgring with a lap time of 7 minutes and 54.36 seconds.
