Audi of America has announced plans to stage the U.S. debut of the RS7 performance, S8 plus and second generation R8 at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.
First up, the RS7 performance is a new range-topping version of that model lineup and comes with a stronger iteration of the TFSI V8 4.0-liter engine that now delivers 605 PS (445 kW) and 700 Nm (750 Nm with overboost). By infusing more power, Audi has managed to lower the model’s 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time by 0.2 seconds to just 3.7 seconds while the 0-124 mph (0-200 km/h) task takes 12.1 seconds, representing a major 1.4s decrease. It also has a revised 8-speed tiptronic gearbox, some subtle body revisions and a few new goodies inside the cabin.
As for the S8 plus, it represents a last hurrah for the current generation A8 and is the most powerful version of the model Audi has ever made, with the TFSI V8 4.0-liter engine developing 605 PS (445 kW) and 700 Nm (750 Nm with overboost), the same as in the aforementioned RS7 performance. It can complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) task in 3.8 seconds and is electronically capped at 155 mph (250 km/h), but Europeans can have it with an increased top speed limiter of 189 mph (305 km/h).
Lastly, the second generation R8 is due to go on sale in the spring of next year as a 2017MY in United States and as most of you know it’s going to be a V10-only version as the V8 4.2 FSI motor has been discontinued from Audi’s flagship performance car. The standard R8 will have 540 PS from its V10 5.2-liter FSI engine whereas the R8 plus is getting 610 PS along with a weight loss and other upgrades.
All three cars will be on display starting November 17 when the Los Angeles Auto Show will open its doors.
