Audi RS6 Avant vs Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon vs Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

Fast wagon aficionados are living their best life at the moment, with three outstanding choices currently on sale in most markets. Anyone with the interest and the funds can get one of either the Audi RS6 Avant, Mercedes-AMG E63 S Wagon or Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, and any of the three would make an excellent choice. However, one of them has to be the best, so which one is it?

In this new comparison test from Evo Magazine, we get to find out which of the three German hot-wagons is best. Sounds like hard work…

All three cars are similar in that they’re midsize German wagons with big power, big luxury, and 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8s. However, they’re all a bit different after that. The Audi RS6 Avant makes 591 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The AMG is a bit punchier, with 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. While the Porsche mixes it up a bit by adding hybrid electric power to create a whopping 671 horsepower and 627 lb-ft. All three cars have automatic gearboxes and all-wheel drive.

The Audi RS6 Avant is also the slowest to 60 mph, of the three. It takes 3.6 seconds to do the deed, compared to the AMG’s 3.5 seconds and the Porsche’s 3.4 seconds. The AMG is also more engaging to drive at the limit, due to its more old-school feel, while the Porsche is more capable and has better steering. That said, the Audi RS6 does fight back by having the best ride/handling balance, brilliant all-wheel steering, and an ability to feel far smaller than it looks. It’s not the best sports car of the bunch but has good balance.
